Intel to Add Wake-on-VoIP Technology to Mobos

Intel to Add Wake-on-VoIP Technology to Mobos,Intel said that four new unspecified motherboards would include a capability called Remote Wake, an improved version of the Wake-on-LAN or Wake-on-WAN technology that has been around for about a decade.

The new addition to the technology is the ability for a VOiP call to wake up the PC, a feature that's obviously geared toward Skype and other VoIP providers. VoIP provider Jajah announced support for the technology. However, both Orb Networks and CyberLink did as well, evidence that Remote Wake will be used for media management, such as recording TV shows, in addition.

Intel spokesman George Alfs confirmed the capability, and named the motherboards, which use either the G45 or G43 chipset: the DG45FC, the DG45ID, the DG43NB, and the DP43TF. Mor details on the new boards may be found at Intel's Web site.

"Basically four motherboards we put out have this capability, and the software vendors have been doing the PR," Alfs said.

Wake-on-LAN technology lets a remote user "wake up" the PC through an alert signal, a key technology for IT admins involved in remote management of corporate PCs or servers. But the technology has never quite caught on in the mainstream PC world, perhaps because allowing remote control of one's PC was seen as a possible security risk.

Jajah was selected by Intel to be the first telecommunications provider to implement Intel's Remote Wake capability into their core telephony infrastructure, Intel and Jajah said. Intel invested $20 million into the company in May 2007.

Enjoy to talk with VoIP !

Can anyone recommend the top performing Patch Management tool for a small IT service company like mine? Does anyone use Kaseya.com or GFI.com? How do they compare to these guys I found recently: N-able N-central security management
? What is your best take in cost vs performance among those three? I need a good advice please... Thanks in advance!
